Artist Statement

Private Dementias refers to the sense of nostalgia for an imaginary past experienced when encountering run-down and/or abandoned places and the feeling of comfort produced from said nostalgia based on the somewhat foolhardy notion that the locales represent a time when "things were better". Much like Jung's Collective Unconscious, I believe, at least in certain facets of American culture, there is an idea of Collective Nostalgia that is derived from the way these places serve to romanticize our own pasts by acting as memory triggers that unlock the carefree innocence of youth.
